There's no way to stamp it out, and I fear that this particular strain of crazy will continue to spread throughout our justice system. It's already made the leap between groups who consider themselves as unlike as could be imagined, and Wesley Snipes seems to have a lesser form of the infection (IRS-nuttery as opposed to all-courts-everywhere-nuttery).

How long until lienspamming becomes a standard tactic among criminals with any sort of resources?
How long until every PD (both senses) needs a primer in "what to do when the defendant insists that the gold fringe on the flag means no jursidiction"?
How long until it starts leaking into advice on what to do for minor crimes/tickets in the mainstream?

As speech, it obviously can't be suppressed, but I see no reason why we don't see more contempt citations arising from the attempt to use these theories and tactics.

I expect it won't leak into advice on minor crimes/tickets. A contempt charge doesn't really matter when you're going away for life, but it takes a truly deranged person to risk a contempt charge and jail time over a $100 speeding ticket.

We're talking about truly deranged people here, aren't we?

My interest was actually most piqued by the website that offers "a deluxe package of instructions for renouncing one’s social security number for only $3,900, payable by check or money order." Is the sale of this sort of thing legal? If so, I think I smell a business opportunity.

It's snake oil of the finest variety; legal until someone decides to regulate it out of existence.

Wow, that was fascinating. Kudos to that judge.
